A Little About Myself
Deborah F. Heverin was born on December 10, 1970 in the Tidewater region of Virginia and was raised on the Eastern Shore in a small town called Wachapreague. She first picked up the clarinet, her instrument of choice, when she joined the band in the sixth grade.
At Nandua High School, Debbie was active in the concert band, marching band and jazz band. Throughout her grade school years, she took private lessons for both piano and clarinet. Academically, she was Secretary of her Freshman Class, an active member of the Beta Club, and was President of the Key Club. In June 1989, Debbie graduated third in her class and left the Eastern Shore for Virginia Tech.
A music education major at Virginia Tech, Debbie was active in the Marching Virginians (clarinet section leader - two years), Wind Ensemble (principal clarinetist), Symphony Band, and The New River Valley Symphony Orchestra (principal clarinetist). She was also Historian for the Delta Omicron Music Fraternity and President of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society for the College of Education.
After graduating Cum Laude from Virginia Tech in 1993, Debbie accepted her first position in Page County, Virginia where she taught High School Band, High School Choir and Elementary General Music at Luray High School and Shenendoah Elementary School.
In the Fall of 1995, Debbie began teaching for the Garwood Whaley Music Program. The first year she taught only three schools: St. Ambrose, St. Andrew, and St. Charles, with St. Theresa and St. John added to her schedule in the next two years.
Debbie has been an active member of the Music Educators National Conference for eight years. She has also performed with the Loudoun Concert Band and is currently performing with the Prince William County Concert Band.
Debbie enjoys working with the Diocese of Arlington and feels she has been blessed with a wonderful group of very talented students. She thoroughly enjoys working with the staff and parents from each school and would like to thank everyone involved in making these band programs as great as they are today!
